A growing number of our members are organizations who work with or publish on behalf of groups of smaller organizations that want to register content and may fit a specific criteria. If you are one of these entities, you might be considering how you can also offer Crossref services to the organizations you work with.
Some smaller organizations like to join as a member via a Sponsor so they have someone representing them for Crossref services, billing, and can take advantage of local or segment-specific support.
We have a couple of options that might help - we have two categories of organizations that work with us on behalf of organizations they represent – Sponsoring Members and Sponsoring Organizations. Both types of sponsor work directly with us in order to provide administrative, billing, technical and if applicable, language support to their sponsored members. In turn, we’re keen to support our Sponsors too, by running LIVE events and other outreach activities with them and listening to their feedback on what they need from us.
If you’re interested in this option, you can read on to find out how being a Sponsoring Organization and a Sponsoring Member differ and which definition you fall under. Not sure? Get in touch and we’ll work with you to figure out the best fit.
You publish your own content as well as content on behalf of other organizations (we call those organizations Sponsored Organizations). You sign one agreement with us covering all publishing activities. Each sponsored organization must have its own distinct DOI prefix but they do not need to sign anything directly with us and we only hold minimal information about them - you are responsible for all passing on all communications and services. These sponsored organizations are not eligible to vote in our board elections but may participate in community working groups.
You do not publish content yourselves but you provide publishing services for organizations that publish (we call these Sponsored Members). You have agreements with us and with each sponsored member, you sign a renewal agreement with us each year, and submit an annual report of your outreach and training activities. You are not eligible to vote in our board elections but the members you represent may.
